Darwin Nunez is confident he has joined a team that will compliment him after achieving a club-record move to Liverpool.

The Reds have snapped up the highly-rated Uruguayan, who scored over 30 goals for Benfica last season, and will part ways with a fee that tops the £75m they paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018 .

The initial cost is £64m, and the deal includes appearance and performance-based add-ons that could take it up to £85m.

Nunez joins a side whose attacking line has long been hailed as one of the best in Europe. Jurgen Klopp has added players over the years who suit his high-energy style with Sadio Mane and Mo Salah among those to thrive. The 22-year-old has been keeping tabs on the Reds and believes he will fit into Anfield’s plans.

He told the club’s website: “I’m really happy and delighted to be here at Liverpool. It’s a huge club. I want to thank my partner and my parents and my son who is a real source. of pride for me. They have been very important to me in the stages of my career.

“I’m really proud of them, and for the job that me and my partner do as a team and I’m grateful to them to be here. It’s a pleasure to be here at Liverpool and I am very happy to be part of this great club, I played against Liverpool and saw them in many Champions League games, and that is my style of play.

“There are some great players here and I think it will suit my style of play here. Like I said, I’ve watched a lot and it’s a very big club and I hope I can give everything I can. I. in order to help the team.

Darwin Nunez has completed his move to Anfield



Liverpool have won Premier League and Champions League glory in recent years under Klopp. Last season they won two trophies but missed out on both big prizes but Nunez is determined to win silverware at the Reds after being shocked by the number of successes.

He added: “When I arrived at the training ground, I was really surprised to see the facility and the structure and all the trophies here. Then you can imagine yourself winning more trophies and then later, when you come back here and see the trophies on display, you can say, “Listen, I was part of it, I was there at that time, winning trophies.”

“That’s one of the reasons I came here to Liverpool – to win trophies and titles. I want to win a lot of trophies at Liverpool.
