Supervisors Approve Transfer of Funds for Courthouse Project in Special Session | News, Sports, Jobs

TR PHOTO BY SUSANNA MEYER — The Board of Supervisors approved a transfer of $3,375,000 from the Basic General Fund to the Capital Projects Fund for courthouse renovation expenses during a brief special session on Friday.

During a brief special session held at the Election Center Friday morning, the Marshall County Board of Supervisors authorized the transfer of $3,375,000 from the General Base Fund to the Capital Projects Fund for renovation expenditures on the courthouse.

According to County Auditor/Recorder Nan Benson, the money came from unspent balances in the Basic General Fund from previous years, and the transfer could not be made until the money was needed. The county is now at the point with the courthouse project where insurance is billed, so the county must first incur the expense and then bill the insurance company for reimbursement. The transfer will also cover the county’s share of the expenses of the reconstruction project, which is expected to be completed later this year.

A motion to approve the transfer is passed unanimously. There were no further questions during the extraordinary session.
